I enjoyed the first two books of this series. I didn't like this one as much. Much of the book was written in second person point of view, which felt really awkward and got in the way of immersion. It seemed to make other shortcomings in the writing more obvious- heavy-handed foreshadowing, histrionic tone, etc. I didn't feel this one- never managed to get into it, although I forced my way through. I was super into this until the epilogue. It remains an incredibly depressing world, with some really pointed nods at an American history of racism (was it this obvious in the previous books?). I remember noticing it somewhat in each book, but I suppose the past softens all memories. The story was fairly straightforward. Was it simpler than the previous books? Was there just less navel-gazing? If so, it was for the better, I remember being confused and annoyed by the Obelisk Gate. The climax had been well-telegraphed since the second book, which just enhanced the agony. But ugh, the epilogue POV just made me feel icky. I was going to give five stars until then. I just did not sympathize with that character or their actions, even though I'd empathized through the main story. I want to give this a 4.5 but then I read this book all in one day and out of an intense passion to follow the protagonists to the end. I may need to reread it to fully appreciate the complexity of this world and how the plot flushes out. The half star would be for the use of a charctar who is 10. I think several things around this character worked at the speed of plot and it tooke me out of the story a little because I didn't feel she was capable of some things she did. Then again, maybe I was underestimating her. I enjoyed this series so much. It is rare that I latch on to a story as intensely as I did when I was a teenager. I think for that alone it deserves 5 stars in my book. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women. Essun has inherited the power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every orogene child can grow up safe. For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
