Teddy: If there's one thing I don't do, it's commitment. You don't become an award-winning photographer by staying in one place. I'm always on the road, looking for the next shot, the next award, the next hot body. Which is how I end up on Dr. James Marian's front porch in the middle-of-nowhere Alaska. He's known as the Wildlife Whisperer, and I want to photograph him in action. He's reluctant at first, but I can be persuasive. Soon enough I have him in bed saying yes over and over and over again, but my ability to shoot and scoot is frozen by a Denali snowstorm. Jamie: I always thought of myself as the marrying type. Until I got left at the altar. Now I have a new motto: never commit and never fall in love. So when a cocky nature photographer decides I'm the key to his next masterpiece, it seems like the perfect arrangement: the hotshot's only in town for a brief assignment and then he'll be gone. No commitment, no strings, and no chance of getting my heart broken again. There's just one problem: I think I'm falling in love. Now I'm afraid that maybe I'm the marrying type after all. And he definitely is not.… (més)

This is odd - I felt sure i'd already rated this book, as I rarely break out the 4.5 stars, but this one, loved it! Very memorable, even to the title, which at first sounds silly, but in the context of the novel, is a good title.

Theodore Kodiak, wildlife photographer, is itching to meet wildlife consultant living in Alaska, Dr Jamie Marian, Teddy's passport to a major wildlife photography prize. Jamie is feisty and rejects Teddy's advances on the fauna photography front, but not however, on the hot man in the lonely wilds of Alaska front. It's a delicious romcom, but it also manages to be super heartfelt and wildly romantic. Lots of 'wilds'.

Lennox captures the electricity between the two leads, reminding me very much of NR Walker's Outrun the Rain.

But on a serious note, I like how often romance novels delve into the universal problem of loneliness - not location, simply the human condition. There's a lot to tackle there.

Lucy Lennox gives us a richly layered romcom and I'll be returning to her again. I'm surprised to see this is the first book of hers I've read, has I've seen her name constantly when I comb the 'shelves' for my next read.

Michael Dean is fantastic. After listening to this I've picked up Borrowing Blue, the first book in the series, and it's also read by Michael Dean - at times I was thrown back into Jamie and Teddy's story, but it didn't matter too much when his narration is so right for these books. ( )

This, the second book, features the eldest Marian brother Jamie, a veterinarian and wildlife expert living in Alaska. I first met this author with her wonderful book, Borrowing Blue. As almost any book, there are things that I liked and some things that I didn’t. The author did a wonderful job of defining these characters, their dialogue and the storyline...so much so that it made it hard to stop listening. You will meet and absolutely love Jamie's Aunt stilly; and his granny will provide several chuckles. I liked the slow development of Jamie and Teddy’s relationship. It fit perfectly considering both men were reluctant to enter into anything too serious for very different but understandable reasons. Jamie had been betrayed by an ex-fiancé, and Teddy’s profession had him traveling a lot preventing him from forming any lasting bonds with anyone and his fear of being hurt or hurting anyone else. Neither man was looking to fall in love, but as we all know, life doesn’t always turn out the way that you plan. When they finally meet, their attraction to each other is too strong to ignore.
Although I liked the story a lot, but I did become frustrated with Jamie’s ex showing up unannounced and uninvited with his family in tow. That entire scene was more of an odd "who in the heck does that?", type of situation. Also, I got jetlag watching Teddy fly all over the country trying to reconnect with Jamie to tell him how he feels only to find that Jamie had traveled on to somewhere else. I wished he had waited for Jamie and let him explain the ex's family all being in Jamie's cabin. Jamie not being there should have told him something. Those things aside, I did truly enjoy the story. Michael Dean did a wonderful presentation with the voices...even the aunt and granny:) Lucy Lennox tells a good story, and she’s quite a talented writer. Overall, I felt that this series is definitely worth reading, along with other works by Lucy Lennox. ( )

DNF: I see why people love this series, but this book is not written well enough for me. I shouldn't be able to compare its increasing stress depth to sitcom level.

I definitely enjoyed this as Teddy and Jamie were both great, and it was lovely to see them falling for each other. There was a bit too much apart time between them though, and I always think more on page time together is better; it was a lovely conclusion once they finally declared their love for each other, and it's odd that I seem to be wishing for longer epilogues so far in this series. How do you trap a wildlife veterinarian? I was one of "National Geographic's" most well-known wildlife photographers, and Dr. James Marian was the most elusive animal I'd ever tried to capture.
