L'autor australià Greg Egan aporta idees fresques a la ciència ficció en explorar la consciència humana i els records, i alhora planteja una "Teoria de la Pols" sobre com la consciència pot trobar-se a si mateixa, pot trobar continuïtat dins d'un mar d’informació i pot construir tot un món subjectiu a partir de retalls.
