Grace Mallory is tired of running, of hiding. But when an old friend sends an after-hours telegraph transmission warning Grace that the man who has hunted her for nearly a year has discovered her location, she fears she has no choice. She can't let the villain she believes responsible for her father's death release his wrath in Harper's Station, the town that has sheltered her and blessed her with the dearest friends she's ever known. Amos Bledsoe prefers bicycles to horses and private conversations over the telegraph wire to social gatherings with young ladies who see him as nothing more than an oddity. His telegraph companion, the mysterious Miss G, listens eagerly to his ramblings every night and delights him with tales all her own. For months, their friendship--dare he believe, courtship?--has fed his hope that he has finally found the woman God intended for him. Yet when he takes the next step to meet her in person, he discovers her life is in peril, and Amos must decide if he can shed the cocoon of his quiet nature to become the hero Grace requires.… (més)

This is third in this series about the Harper Station colony of ladies. This story is about the telegraph operator, Grace Mallory. Grace has found this town of ladies because she is in hiding from the man who killed her father and is after the books that Grace escaped with. Amos Bledsoe is a fellow telegraph operator who has been communicating with Grace after hours over the telegraph lines. When Grace finds out her cover is blown and the man is coming after her, Amos decides to rush to her rescue and meet face to face this woman he has come to care about.

Now Grace and Amos must learn to trust each other and figure out if the Pinkerton Agent who has shown up in this ladies community is to be trusted or not. There is also another side story going on during this which is just as interesting. There will be guns fired, people hurt and a kidnapping before the truth comes out and Grace is free from danger. And the feelings that Grace and Amos feel for each other becomes a tender love story. This was another good story in this series. ( )

I always look forward to a new release from Karen Witemeyer, but I was especially excited about Heart on the Line because it continues with the Ladies of Harper’s Station. I loved No Other Will Do and couldn’t wait to revisit the town and its community.

This second book follows Grace Mallory and Amos Bledsoe. The way they get to know one another through telegraph messages is so sweet, and I so loved how Amos is not a hero typically found in a western-set romance. He’s a little nerdy and quirky and wonderful. Arriving danger brings the two together, and the following drama, suspense, action, and romance is excellent. It’s an entertaining gem of a book, and I completely loved Heart on the Line, like No Other Will Do, of course. I recommend it. (Both books, actually.)

Thanks to Bethany House, I received a complimentary copy of Heart on the Line and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own. ( )

Karen Witemeyer writes engaging and entertaining tales of Inspirational Historical Western Romance. As the stories unfold, the characters experience both spiritual and personal growth while facing adventures and finding humor along the way. Of course, the romance is just perfect, with a hero and a heroine who learn about themselves while learning about each other. "Heart on the Line" is Book Two in the "Ladies of Harper's Station" series. Harper's Station is a little Texas town in the late 1800's where women rule the day and the democratic society they have created. Grace Mallory, on the run from a personal tragedy in Denver, Colorado, is a skilled telegraph operator. For some time, as "Miss G" she has connected with "Mr. A", a fellow telegrapher. Their friendship develops across the wires--a form of "frontier social media". When "Mr. A", Amos Bledsoe, relays a disturbing personal message to Grace from Colorado, her lack of response alarms him and propels him to seek her out. What follows is a charming and eventful courtship between two very likeable characters who must take a great leap of faith to solve a mystery and hold on to the "life-transforming" love that just may be their ultimate reward. A very lovely story from the talented Karen Witemeyer.

Grace and Amos are great pen pals, err.... telegraph pals. They are telegraph operators from different stations and get to know each other by their nighttime chats. When Grace is threatened during one of their evening chats, Amos goes into action to get to her side, on an obstinate and slow mule.

That tells you about how this story goes. Amos has the best of intentions, but he is more of a cerebral hero, rather than the kind you find in most Western novels. I loved the characters and their quirky personalities. While Amos isn't a typical hero, he is a wonderful hero. He will do anything that he can to protect Grace.

Grace has been hiding for over a year and I loved how her friends rallied around her. She has the clues to solve a mystery and will hide them from a bad and greedy man. There is a little bit of suspense and mystery. It is a great blend of a few genres.

I enjoyed this book. Anyone who enjoys a great romance set in the Old West should definitely give it a try. It has Christian themes and contains kissing and non-graphic violence

Grace Mallory has been living in the women's colony of Harper's Station, Texas and working as the local telegraph operator. Over the course of her time there, she has struck up a friendship over the telegraph wire with Mr. A, another telegraph operator in Denison. But when Mr. A (the very kind, bespectacled Amos Bledsoe) overhears a warning to Grace that one of the dark shadows from her past has come back to haunt her, he immediately wants to help. But even with Amos' help, will Grace be able to overcome the threats that have come her way?

This was a cute historical Christian romance. I'm generally a fan of Witemeyer's writing and this was a solid entry in her new series. Grace and Amos are neither typical romance leads as Grace is rather shy and Amos is far more of an intellectual man than one of the muscular types that typically crop up in historical romances. I also enjoyed the historical equivalent of meeting online with Grace and Amos both being telegraph operators. If you enjoy this genre, this is a solid read and worth picking up. ( )
