I am not entirely sure what was going on with the wider DC comics universe at the time this was written, so I feel like I'm missing some context to this volume. I was still able to follow along generally though even missing the wider story. ( ) Jaime Reyes is the Blue Beetle. Apparently a blue scarab has attached itself toJaime show Hines through the entire comic that he doesn’t want it and some rich white man names Kord wants him to use it for something we don’t learn about. Meanwhile, someone named Dr. Fate wants to take the scarab from Jaime but we don’t know from what. Overall, this graphic novel was Lame. Reading it felt like being on the outside of an Inside joke. The constant chatter between Jaime and Kord is confusing and distracting. All of the “Posse” are annoying that they appear and announce their names rather than helping anything. I honestly didn’t like this comic at all. Jaime Reyes is still the Blue Beetle. He still has the scarab as a part of him. But he's working with Ted Kord and Kord's company. Or sorta working for Ted if Ted has anything to say about it. Jaime fights a lot of bad guys in this TPB. But the overarching theme is, what is the Scarab that got into Jaime. We also learn all about the sorta meta-human gang called Posse. And we learn something about his Mom that's quite shocking to Jaime. Oh, and Dr. Fate makes a couple of appearances too, and that's probably not a good thing for Jaime or Ted in future TPBs. I got this ARC through Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment.
