( ) One thing is true with Taylor Jenkins Reid: her books always seem too short. Or, I just read them too fast because I can't stop. This is not literary fiction, but it is a great easy read with memorable (unforgettable even) characters and a fantastic story. I didn't expect this at all. I had no idea going into this that none of the seven husbands will be nearly as important as someone else! Most of these men were, actually, very underwhelming (except for Harry!). I loved the love story between Celia and Evelyn, and this book turned out to be a perfect read for Pride Month. While I felt that some parts were a little muddled, and I expected more from the twist at the end, it didn't take away from the overall enjoyment of this book. It really came alive for me, so it is a fair 5 star read. It's hard to imagine anything I will read this year that will match this. I think I've just finished one of my favorite books. Here's what worked (without spoilers): - Evelyn Hugo is one of the best character I've ever read. The story contains a beautifully constructed evolution of the protagonist that does not water down the essence of the character. She is as unapologetic and shameless as we first met her but there is a trail showing changes in values and behaviour. I loved being in her head (reading people the way she did, recognizing opportunities the way she did, I could go on...) Reading in her perspective allowed me to fly through the book, it felt like 100 pages. - Seven Husbands is morally grey done well. So often we see character tout themselves as such but act nothing of the sort. Every character in the story has moments where they act with kindness or maliciousness. - Monique's perspective elevated the book and brought gravity and perspective to a story so grandiose and different to the lives of readers. I loved hearing Monique ask Evelyn questions I wanted to ask myself. Their dynamic busted that 4th wall down and made Evelyn seem (even) more human. It felt like I was right there in Evelyn's apartment. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Summoned to Evelyn's Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn's life unfolds, Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn's story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique's own in tragic and irreversible ways. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
