A blast from earlier days, this one, when englishmen had stiff upper lips, ladies swooned, and these pesky ethnics knew their place. Shipwrecked englishman finds way onto mysterious tropical island, gets involved in local intrigues, finds way with islander new friends to san fransisco and china. Lots of murders and other derring-do before the remaining cast live happily ever after.

In his day Dennis Wheatley was an incredibly popular author whose only crime these days, I suspect, is that readers have moved on from his story-telling format. Keep that in mind and you could find this a very good read. ( )
