Frida kahlo is a known artist to me because I’ve heard of her multiple times in my Spanish classes. It’s a cute book to show children about her life and with animals. ( )

Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos is a children’s picture book and it is about how Frida had a lot of unusual pet animals. This book shows how she loved having pets, but pets that other people usually would want to have, such as monkeys, two turkeys, an eagle, three dogs, a black cat and one fawn. The illustrations were cute illustrations and reminded me of cartoon characters. The animals did not have extra features to focus on, but you were still able to tell what kind of animal it was. ( )

I heard of Frida before in previous Spanish classes but never really got to learn much about her. This was a very informative book and a great way to share her life with young readers.

A great book to teach young children about the talented artwork of Frida Kahlo. The vivid illustrations are inviting to young children. The illustrations on each page shows Frida's love for her animals. This book will definitely be added to my classroom library. ( )

Monica Brown did a really great job of comparing Frida Kahlo's personality traits to the many traits of her various pets which helps readers to understand her better. Like her pets free to roam and loved greatly, Frida freely gave of her talents and in turn her artwork is loved by many. I think this book would be a great mentor text for teaching similies and metaphors because of the comparisons of Frida to her pets.
It's inspiring that Frida overcame her sickness and injury, but the author's note touches on it more than the story itself. I think Brown could have displayed this more, but I do see how she wanted to focus more on the importance of her animals that inspired her paintings. ( )
