This is an absolutely stunning picture book biography of a boy who imagined a world full of dragons and grew up to be the beloved author J. R. R. Tolkien. I particularly found the parts where Tolkien was depicted to be apart of the action of the Hobbit to be quite wonderful! I will be purchasing this book. ( ) In this book you learn about J.R.R. Tolkien's life and how he created the books he is most known for. The story goes through Tolkein's upbringing and formative pieces of his life that helped him write The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series. I think this book could be used from 3rd grade to 8th grade, especially if you used it for an autobiography project or a creative writing assignment. This thoughtfully illustrated book takes the reader through Tolkien’s life. His imagination was always a steady and comforting presence, creating characters that kept him company. Eventually, he brings the characters to life in the stories we know today. Includes Author’s Note, Illustrator’s Note, Notes on Dragons, Bibliography. That a lovely, basic biography of Tolkien. There wasn’t much to the story, just a general timeline and his hunt for dragons, but it worked. And the soft watercolor style illustrations were a perfect counter to the historial words. I really liked how at the end the illustrator explained how and what they choose to illustrate. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

"A captivating picture book biography of a boy who imagined a world full of dragons and grew up to be beloved author J. R. R. Tolkien. John Ronald loved dragons. He liked to imagine dragons when he was alone, and with his friends, and especially when life got hard or sad. After his mother died and he had to live with a cold-hearted aunt, he looked for dragons. He searched for them at his boarding school. And when he fought in a Great War, he felt as if terrible, destructive dragons were everywhere. But he never actually found one, until one day, when he was a grown man but still very much a boy at heart, when he decided to create one of his own. This picture book biography introduces the beloved creator of Middle Earth and author of The Hobbit to a new generation of children who see magic in the world around them.
