Benedict the bear is a fan of routine. A big part of that routine revolves around the three jars of honey he receives daily. But when the bees go on strike, Benedict is forced to find a way to help them and get his honey back!
I think this book could be a great way to introduce the topic of bees and environmentalism. For lower grades, a teacher can discuss the theme of respect that the bear learns to give the bees.

This is a great story to read to the students! Mostly for the lesson within the story! The Bear in the story learns not to take the bees who do so much for him for granted. ( )

The story is about a bear who has the routine every morning and night. Until one day the bees didn't have any honey. The bees went on strike because he eats to much honey and their bee hives are not up to date. The bees said no more honey for the bear until he helps the bees. The bear found a way to improve their hives. He did much research. The bees were so happy, so they started making honey for the bear again. And the bear didn't take the bees for granted anymore. ( )

Benedict's life is sweet. Every morning he wakes up to three jars of honey from the bees and he goes about his day following his daily routine: eating his honey toast and honey tea for breakfast, practicing, perfecting his honey cake recipe, knitting, running errands, read his book before bed, and drink one last cup of honey tea. But one morning when Benedict woke up, there was no honey from the bees; the bees had gone on strike. The bees were tired of doing all the work for Benedict and getting noting in return. Benedict didn't even notice his selfishness and so he decided to make a change. From then on, Benedict appreciated the bees and his honey. His life was even sweeter now.

I really enjoyed this story. I love the message of appreciation it gives to readers. I also love that it teaches the reader to not take people for granted and to respect one another through mutually giving and taking rather than putting all the work on someone else. This is such an important message in life for all relationships and it's still something that people struggle with. This book is definitely going to be one that I save for when I become a teacher. A bear lives a routine life of eating honey but one day the bees don’t bring him any honey. It completely throws off his life. He talks to a bee who says that the conditions are poor and that the bear doesn’t appreciate the honey. The bear does research and builds the bees a nice hive and learns how to harvest the honey for himself. The bees are impressed and start making the honey again. The moral of this story is to appreciate what you have, to respect others and be willing to work for what you want. I really enjoyed this book because of the many different messages that are applied without the reader really having to think about it. ( )
