The ending could use a little work, but I LOVE this book!! Henry has found the perfect book on bicycles. He is so engrossed but the school bell tells him it’s time to do something else. But Henry wants to keep reading. And so he does. The school tries to get him to stop and buys a louder and louder bell to make it happen. While I do love this book, there are a few things I don’t like. He’s at school. We should be proud that a kid wants to read. The principal shouldn’t be trying to get him to stop. Not even for sports. Henry found the most awesome book about a bike and he couldn’t put it down. He wanted to keep reading but the bell kept ringing and he had to follow the bell or did he? What would happen if he just stayed put and kept reading?
Book or Bell is a cute, simple narrative that illustrates cause and effect in a humorous manner. This book is recommended as a read aloud for preschool or kindergarten age children. It lends itself nicely to discussing how one thing leads to another. Children can make predictions or think of alternate endings
Engrossed in a book, Henry decides to ignore the school bell, which sets off a chain reaction.
