Kind of an entertaining sort of Ozark fantasy folktale. Although I normally abjure the meet-as-kids, marry-as-adults plots, this one was sweet. ( )

This book tells the story of a young boy, Rink, who grows flowers out of his head. His mom cuts them before he goes to school everyday. When a new girl starts school who has a flower in her hair and whose legs are two different lengths, Rink makes her a pair of shoes that have different size soles so that it evened out her height. He gives them to her for the school dance. She is so excited that she asks him to be her dance partner. Then he finds out that the flower behind her ear are like the flowers on his head, they grow on her too! ( )
