I was excited to be able to read the Arabic text---I think I get the wordplay of the title, but only via google translate and some guessing. I liked how Ata depicted the atypical seizure using the visual vocabulary they'd developed. My overall feeling however was that the story/metaphors/relationships/etc are heavy-handed. And, as a non-anime-fan, I didn't really care for the art and the references to specific shows did nothing for me. ( ) This was a fairly interesting glimpse into the life of a person struggling with epilepsy. Unfortunately, it made use of the same old cliched structure of a person going off their meds and snowballing toward a full-blown crisis. I read the same thing in [b:Turtles All the Way Down|35504431|Turtles All the Way Down|John Green|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1503002776s/35504431.jpg|21576687] (OCD) and [b:Calvin|23310675|Calvin|Martine Leavitt|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1421087319s/23310675.jpg|42864801] (schizophrenia) earlier this year. Surely there must be some other way to tell these stories. A beautiful account of one person's struggle with epilepsy. If you have a chronic illness, you will identify with the author's story and you will feel understood. If you have a family member with a chronic illness, you should read this graphic novel. Nowhere will you find an easier, more delightful way to find out what your loved one is going through. (A review copy of this book was provided by the publisher.) College student Isaac struggles to manage his epilepsy and his day-to-day life. His medication does not seem to work, the doctors won't listen, the schoolwork keeps piling up, his family is in denial about his condition, and his social life falls apart as he feels isolated by his illness. Even with an unexpected new friend by his side, so much is up against him that Isaac is starting to think his epilepsy might be unbeatable. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
