Billionaire Ian Shaw can have everything he wants--except a happy ending. Or at least that's what it feels like with his fortune recently liquidated, his niece, Esme, still missing, and the woman he loves refusing to speak to him. In fact, he doubts she would date him even if they were stranded on a deserted island. Despite her love for Ian, Sierra Rose knows he has no room in his life for her as long as the mystery of his missing niece goes unsolved. The only problem is, Sierra has solved it, but a promise to Esme to keep her whereabouts secret has made it impossible to be around Ian. When the PEAK chopper is damaged and Sierra lacks the funds to repair it, Ian offers a fundraising junket for large donors on his yacht in the Caribbean. But the three-day excursion turns into a nightmare when a rogue wave cripples the yacht and sends the passengers overboard. Shaken up and soaked to the bone, Ian finally has a chance to test his theory when he and Sierra do indeed find themselves washed up on a strange, empty shore. It will take guts and gumption for the PEAK team to rescue the duo. But it will take a miracle to rescue Ian and Sierra's relationship.… (més)

Definitely a romance novel, but had enough mystery and action to keep me reading although I usually don't go for these types of books. Well written and good characters, but I knew too much too early.

I've read this series out of order--I read book 5 before this one. I liked book 5 better than this one, but I can't figure out if that is because I already know some of what happens from the previous book.

This book focuses on two potential couples: Ian Shaw and Sierra Rose; Jess Tagg and Pete. Ian struggles with thinking he has to be in control and that if he's not in control he'll lose people he loves. Sierra struggles with fear of being left behind. Jess is running away from a painful past. They all end up confronting these and asking for help from God to overcome them. I didn't find the Ian/Sierra story very compelling. It seemed like they have a cyclical relationship: they'd get together, then one would do something the other wouldn't like and they'd distance themselves from each other again, then it would start all over.

The Pete/Jess relationship was a bit more interesting to me because I was learning more about the life Jess chose to leave and why.

It just seemed like the couples couldn't get on the same page. When one was ready, the other was not and vice versa. There's only so much of that I can read before I say "Oh, come on! Appreciate what you have with each other and move forward!"

The book also deals with the PEAK rescue team. In the beginning of the book, they are dealt the loss of equipment that threatens to close down their operation. Sierra puts together a fund raising junket using Ian's yacht to try to save PEAK. The trip goes a little "Gilligan's Island"-ish with a series of random events that put lives in danger and separate the group.

Overall I like the series and I like that the author is able to write romantic suspense without the seemingly obligatory-to-the-genre sex scene(s). I think this book is bit higher on the romance side than the suspense side--maybe that's why I liked book 5 a bit better than this book. ( )

An excellent novel from the talented hands of Susan May Warren! She has managed yet again to completely capture me and enthrall me with her suspenseful romantic plot! The page turning, nail biting suspense kept me up long into the night. The characters were wonderfully chiseled and I fell in love with them all! ( )

Ian Shaw can pretty much buy anything he wants, except the whereabouts of his niece, Esme and Sierra, the woman he loves. And now he finds himself liquidating his assets to pay government fines for a devastating fire they say he’s responsible for starting. Sierra Rose still loves Ian in spite of everything that’s happened between them, but his obsession to find Esme has totally consumed his life. Sierra knows where Esme is and wants to share that with Ian but has promised Esme she’d keep it secret. When the PEAK chopper is badly damaged during a rescue and there are no funds to repair it, Ian offers his yacht for a three day Caribbean fundraiser excursion. Sierra organizes it and Ian invites his closest friends who he hopes will donate the money to fix the chopper. The excursion turns into a nightmare when a rogue wave hits the yacht and sends everyone overboard. Ian and Sierra find themselves washed up on a deserted island. Will working together to survive bring them closer together? And if they are rescued what will happen when Ian finds out Sierra’s kept the truth from him?

Wow! Talk about an edge-of-your-seat-can’t-put-it-down story, this one is just that! From the very beginning until it’s climatic conclusion you will be glued to the pages. This is the long awaited story of Ian and Sierra and it does not disappoint. At the same time, you have the Pete and Jess story continuing on as well. Two stories for the price of one. I love that! Be prepared for emotional ups and downs but with that you’ll also get some great nuggets of spiritual wisdom and encouragement. I like that you see all the familiar friends you’ve come to know from the previous books. To me, that makes the story much more endearing. Along with the emotional ups and downs, you’ll encounter action, suspense and some heart-stopping moments. If you can ride out the ‘Troubled Waters’ you are in for a real treat at the end. Although this has a conclusion it sets the stage for the next story (Storm Front) which I can’t wait to dive into. I highly recommend not only this book but the whole series. I recommend you read them in order though because, although each book can stand alone, there is certain parts of the story that carry from one book to the next.

Some favorite quotes:

“If I didn’t know that God had my back, I’d be a basket case”

“Our team chaplain told me to count it a gift when God is my only option, and…he’s right. I decided to refuse to believe anything but that God is good and he loves me. Doesn’t mean life isn’t insane sometimes, but I’m not in this alone.”

“Love isn’t about how she makes you feel. It’s about giving of yourself to her. And doing what’s best for her.”

“Your worth to God has nothing to do with your actions. He loves you because he wants to Because he chooses to.”

I won this in Early Reviewers but still have not received it, however, I borrowed it from my library and read it last week. I am just loving this series. Each set of characters highlighted have real life issues and Susan addresses them in a real life way. Faith and grace abound in the series and this one is no different. Ian Shaw and Sierra finally get it together after a very scary episode involving a sinking yacht. Both of them learn to trust God moving forward. Looking forward to the next entry in this series. ( )
