We are finally introduced to Mycroft and Moriarty in this collection, and I was quite excited to see them making an appearance at last. (  ) TCLinrow | Mar 17, 2021 | As much as I enjoyed reading Holmes' lengither adventures in The Sign of Four and A Study in Scarlett, the short story format is much more condusive. The brief glimpses that we get of Sherlock, Watson, and their compatriots are built upon in a steady manor in each story, and the 20-ish page length is the perfect container for each exciting tale. Additionally, very few of the stories are tied together in a grander scheme, so an attempt to have them as chapters (a la Dickens) would be largely useless. Overall, a highly entertaining collection of adventures, with I am sure many more to come, irregardless of Holmes' apparent death at the hands of Moriarty.
