Virginia's early colonists, imbued with the enlightenment of England's Renaissance, were as educated as England could afford. Colonial Well of Knowledge is a neglected story of their qualities and determination to create an educated and cultured civilization in Virginia's wilderness. By the early 1620s, powerful forces at work for a college were becoming entrenched in the colony's culture and political fabric. They steadily enriched a wellspring of intellectual and cultural resources. Reflecting the Virginia people as a whole, leaders of America's first representative legislature channeled the indefatigable forces at work for a college through the 1691 General Assembly. The result was the Royal Charter for a college. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
