Ennesimo libro che non si è rivelato all'altezza delle aspettative.
Il difetto principale è che il giallo non ha mordente, diluito com'è tra le disavventure quotidiane (e non così interessanti) dei protagonisti; sarò strana io, ma da un mistery mi aspetto che la trama gialla sia preponderante e non un riempitivo tra una scenetta familiare e l'altra. Questo ci porta all'altro problema del romanzo, più soggettivo: le sorelle Mitford sono state icone del '900 in Inghilterra e quindi la particolarità del libro sta nell'includere tale famiglia tra i personaggi principali; però per chi (come me) non ne aveva mai sentito parlare la loro presenza non riveste alcun fascino, anzi il risultato è una lettura appesantita da una marea di dettagli inutili su gente sconosciuta.
Insomma l'autrice ha commesso il peccato più imperdonabile per chi scrive gialli: non è riuscita a suscitare curiosità. Per fortuna verso la fine si ricorda che c'è un mistero da risolvere ed il ritmo si fa più serrato; ho anche apprezzato l'idea alla base della soluzione, ma l'esecuzione l'ho trovata sbrigativa e in anticlimax.
Nonostante tutto è un romanzo scorrevole, peccato che non abbia nessuna qualità che possa rimanere impressa nella mente del lettore ( )

Louisa, Nancy Mitford with Sergeant Guy Sullivan seem determined to find the murderer.
I didn't really get an connection to the characters, I didn't really find them interesting enough. I have no idea if the Mitfords have been portrayed accurately (they were not the reason for reading the book) I was more interested in reading a murder mystery story. With that in mind and that I didn't particularly like the writing style, it was an just about interesting enough to get me to the end of the book.

I could hardly finish. It read like a Nancy Drew Book. I have the others in the series and probably will take a stab at the others some day, but not in the near future. I am disappointed. I expected so much more. ( )
