The Wellesleys were not a happy couple, and this book addresses the possible issues. But after giving us a biography of Catherine"Kitty" Pakenham, and discussing the family's connection to Ireland, it fails to grapple with the information we were all seeking. There's no easy paper trail to follow, and Joan Wilson isn't a woman of such bad taste as to speculate wildly. So this volume, except for some family portraits, and a bit of social history about Arthur's celebrity, and how Kitty dealt with that, is rather a failure. If you are interested in Kitty and the toddlerhood of Wellington's children, this is informative. For the rest of us, it's very peripheral to the Great Duke's story.
