I liked this book because when the cyclops call to Poseidon he cursed Odysseus. I enjoyed the CD.

This is a great example of a legend. No one really knows how all these old Greek stories came to be, though we suspect it was by Homer. This book has wonderful captivating pictures, and it explains the story of Odysseus very well.

The artistry of this book of myths truly captured me. The illustrator did a wonderful job bringing life to this story. The author also created a wonderful take on the Odyssey. I can use this book to introduce Greek mythology to my class. ( )

The Cyclops tale from Homer's epic, "The Odyssey," is accurately retold in "The Adventures of Odysseus." The author provides seven sources in the Bibliography - typically only a brief author's note with a short discussion about the origin of a folktale is provided. The language and content of the story makes the plot and setting easy to follow for readers ages 7-10; the storyline is simple, yet rich with details such as the Cyclops', "tusk-like teeth," and "snout of the nose," and a graphic description of one of Odysseus men being smacked against the roof of the Cyclops' cave and eaten by the Cyclops. The details and the on-going dialogue between Odysseus and the Cyclops makes the story an appropriate read aloud. ( )

Interesting, great pictures. Would be ideal to read aloud to a 1st grader or a 5th grader to read to himself. Ages 7-11. ( )
