A must-read for anyone looking to move beyond type as caricature and learn how to work with the Enneagram toward spiritual growth. Over 100,000 copies sold!  Most of us spend a lifetime trying to figure out who we are, and how we relate to others and God. The Enneagram is here to help. Far more than a personality test, author Chris Heuertz writes, the Enneagram is a sacred map to the soul. Lies about who we think we are keep us trapped in loops of self-defeat. But the Enneagram reveals both the nine ways we get lost, as well as the nine ways we find our way home to our True Self and to God.  Chris Heuertz has taught the Enneagram all over the world, and has trained under some of the great living Enneagram masters including Father Richard Rohr, Russ Hudson, Marion Gilbert, and Helen Palmer. Whether you are an enthusiast or simply Enneagram-curious, this groundbreaking guide to the spiritual depth of the Enneagram will help you:  Understand the 'why' behind your type, beyond caricatures and stereotypes Identify and find freedom from self-destructive patterns Learn how to work with your type toward spiritual growth Awaken your unique gifts to serve today's broken world Richly insightful and deeply practical, The Sacred Enneagram is your invitation to begin the journey of a life transformed. A book that I think I will find myself returning to again and again. Lots to unpack and revisit. ( )

I bought this on Kindle when it was on sale, having had the Enneagram as part of a work experience. I started it yesterday on a flight from Saskatoon and finished in two sittings (one was a three hour sitting!). I’m a 7 with an 8 wing, if that means anything to you.

From a Christian perspective, this book integrates the enneagram with spiritual formation and growth. I liked it. I expect I’ll go back into it again now that I’ve read it and highlighted a bunch for future reference. ( )

I read this book over six weeks, as part of a Tuesday night class through Artisan Church.

This is my second deep-dive into the Enneagram, after reading The Road Back To You in 2017.

This is a solid book to start with after you've gained some familiarity with the Enneagram. It goes deep - I still have not wrapped my head around the Harmony Triads. The book provides practical ways to engage with your type through contemplative prayer practice that I found interesting. The author presumes you have full buy-in throughout the book. He's an engaging author and weaves the right amount of personal story into it without being overbearing.

A helpful and practical guide to engaging the Enneagram.

A thorough and helpful introduction to the Enneagram in all of its dimensions.

The author walks a person through the concept of the Enneagram: the different types, how they manifest themselves, their tendencies, their "intelligence centers," their challenges, and the kind of prayer and meditation practices they would need.

There's a lot here, but the author does a great job of slowly walking a person through all there is to offer. It's a great introductory work to that end; the end has some suggested prayer techniques (centering, examen, body), and one of the appendices contrasts the different types to avoid mistyping.

The work is certainly not the end of the story on the Enneagram; it works best to open horizons so one can explore and learn more. Yet as that guide it proves extremely useful. Highly recommended. ( )
