When young Elwyn White lay in bed as a sickly child, a bold house mouse befriended him. When the time came for kindergarten, an anxious Elwyn longed for the farm, where animal friends awaited him at the end of each day. Propelled by his fascination with the outside world, he began to jot down his reflections in a journal. Writing filled him with joy, and words became his world. Today, Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web are beloved classics of children's literature, and E. B. White is recognized as one of the finest American writers of all time.… (més)

Elwin White, famously known as E.B. White, is introduced as a young boy with who befriends a mouse while he is home sick from school one day. Befriending a mouse turns to befriending all the animals on his family's farm including a spider. Elwin's life story as a boy, a student, a writer, a farmer, a husband, and a father displays his inspirations behind the prominent "Charlotte's Web" and "Stuart Little". ( )

This was a story about E.B white when he was a boy. It tells about how has always liked animals and the things he would do when he was young. It helps you understand where he got the idea for Charlotte's Web. I think this type of biography is great for kids, since it's a picture book the illustrations might help keep kids interested it makes it more of a story rather than just facts about a person ( )

A Boy, A Mouse, and a Spider was a really interesting book. I liked how it explained all about E.B. White. I was able to get a better understanding of where the idea for the book Charlotte's Web came from because A Boy, A Mouse, and A Spider gave us background information of E.B. White and how/where he grew up. ( )

This book is the biography of the author E.B. White, and explains his life as a child and how animals have always been his inspiration. It tells his motivations behind the stories “Stuart Little” and “Charlotte’s Web”. He enjoyed his past of farm and comfort so much that White moved back to live on a farm after living in the city for a while. It’s a great picture book biography for younger readers to encourage creative writing. ( )

This book is the biography of the author E.B. White. It explains his life as a child and how animals have been his inspiration for quite a while. It tells his motivations behind the stories “Stuart Little” and “Charlotte’s Web”. The illustrator, Lauren Castillo, does a great job of expressing White’s life through pictures along side the concise statements on each page. I was very interested in the fact that White had moved back to live on a farm after living in the city for a while. It was also funny to learn that Stuart Little was about a real mouse he had befriended as a child. I enjoyed this read and think it’s a great picture book biography for younger readers. ( )
