Heathen (edició 2017)

I wasn't expecting much from this. I downloaded this from NetGalley because the description piqued my interest. I did not expect to find a powerful queer and feminist story that pulled me in. This was absolutely wonderful. I found myself falling completely in love with this story of an outcast Viking girl who goes on a quest to free Brynhild, who is cursed and imprisoned by Odin.

I adored this. I didn't want it to end. The artwork was stunning, and done in shades of brown that are just perfect - it invokes an old-time feeling for the story, while allowing for subtle detail. The storyline was paced really well, with what felt like perfectly timed plot reveals that left me wanting more.

I need more.

AWWW YISSS. Strong woman viking totally sticking it to her clan for banning her for kissing a girl....hmm. Rescuing a goddess bound to a mountaintop and protected by a Cleansing Fire that kills the Unworthy? SO MUCH YES.
Also, screw Odin, man. 😠

I loved this, and I can't wait for the next installment. ( )

Could definitely work for teens, but there's enough bare boobs that I don't think I can bring it on school visits. (Like, there's not much nudity, but one of the goddesses just doesn't wear a top in any of her scenes, so.) ( )
