"God still speaks. Do you know how to hear His voice? The voice that spoke the cosmos into existence is the same voice that parted the Red Sea and made the sun stand still in the midday sky. One day this voice will make all things new, but it's also speaking to you now! That voice is God's voice, and what we've learned from Scripture is that He often speaks in a whisper. Not to make it difficult to hear Him, but to draw us close. Many people have a tough time believing God still speaks. Sure, in ancient times and in mysterious ways, God spoke to HIs people, but is He still speaking now? Mark Batterson certainly believes so. And he wants to introduce you to the seven love languages of God; each of them unique and entirely divine. Some of them you might expect but others will suprise you."--… (més)

Whisper. Just hearing the word makes you feel that hushed tone wash over you. You don't just whisper to anyone. Whispering requires leaning in and softly use your breath to compose words. It's intimate. It's personal. It's relationship at a deeper level.

In Whisper, Mark Batterson show you how to lean in and hear the voice of God by learning seven of God's love languages.

When I first picked up this book I assumed the focus would be prayer and meditation but it is so much more than that. Mr. Batterson has a way of intertwining historic people and events with God's Word to drive his points home and leave you sitting there, book open on your lap, soaking in what you just read. Whisper is about love and listening for God's still, small voice amiss a crazy, loud life.

I was careful to check all of the Biblical references that were mentioned throughout the book and this sent me on a deeper study than just reading the book cover to cover, which I really enjoyed. The Bible has again became alive to me! Many of the points that the author pointed out I have heard before but, because of their relevance, they will always bear repeating. After reading Whisper, I felt empowered and am prayerfully going back through the book to delve even deeper into this study of hearing God's voice, getting more into God's Word, and finding my "whispering spot."

Mr. Batterson has a writing style that I have always enjoyed and I love how personable his books are. He is not afraid to give you a glimpse into his life and struggles and the historical stories are always fascinating. You always finish his books feeling closer to the Lord as well as remembering quirky stories that you would most likely have never known otherwise.

The hardest chapter for me to read was the very last chapter which talked about pain being the seventh love language. Though hard to read I get it at the same time. There is a purpose beyond our pain, you just need to have faith and "listen to what God is saying during these tough times." You'll come out on the other side stronger than you ever were before.

I enjoyed this book immensely and if you are a fan of Mark Batterson's work I'm sure you will too. It was thought-provoking, deep, powerful, and wonderful! ( )

If you want to go beyond posting request to God, but really want to have a conversation with Him, I guess you can need some help to enrich your prayer life with the listening part. Enter Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God. God speaks to both heavy storms as well a still small voice, that needs attention and the attitude of a careful listener. Mark Batterson illustrates his core message with an abundance of stories about physiology, inventors, theologians, leaders, and biblical characters like Joshua, Moses, and Samuel.

God speaks through Scripture, but also through shared desires, doors that are opened or closed, dreams and visions, other people, promptings to start or stop, and last but not least: pain and suffering. When it comes to discerning God's will Batterson employes five tests: the Goose-Bump Test, an alignment between your spirit and the Holy Spirit, Next, peace and wise counsel, but also the craziness of the answer or instruction, and as fifth the released-from and called-to test, that gives you the room to manoeuver. God speaks, so make sure you're ready to listen as His faithful servant. ( )

Whisper is such a beautiful book, so many ways to hear God's voice if you just take the time to open up your heart and listen. Mark Batterson describes them all wonderfully, "God often speaks loudest when we're quietest". Once you start reading his book it is so hard to put down. ( )

If you've ready any of Mark Batterson's books and saw how powerful and inspiring they are you'll find this one just as good. He digs deep into the Word which really inspires me to dig deeper as well, much is revealed in this book that uses unique ways to help you understand. There is so much in the book that I want to remember and go back to for further reading, I have many pages marked and look forward to the journey deep into the Bible. Mark knows how to teach and get the point across through the stories he uses and the things he compares them too. I thoroughly have enjoyed this book.

I received a copy of this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. ( )
