Elliott lived next door and the two young teens bonded over a love of books. As they grew up they became each other's first love but something traumatic happened which resulted in them losing contact until they accidentally met about a decade later and started filling in the gaps in their lives. I thought this was quite a sweet first love/ forever love story; the way they started off innocently as just best friends and the relationship growing believably from there, with the kids slowly falling in love. It's nice to have someone who you trust who knows exactly how you think. I like the way Elliott is so honest and I'm a sucker for guys who wear their hearts on their sleeves. I liked his big family, as well as Macy's small one. I found it better than 'You and Me on Vacation' which I read recently which had a similar premise - i.e. best friends to lovers and what went wrong, told in flashbacks/ count up, and second chances. This has more teen angst and first love - but it's also about BOOKS. I'm not sure why the authors say this was their first venture into women's fiction though. But I think that the real message of this story is (June 2023) 4-4.5 stars What brought it down for me was the reason why they didn’t speak for 11 years - which you find out right at the end!! Honestly the “I was drunk” excuse is the worst. You are still held accountable for your actions whilst drunk as you chose to drink that much. It was gross And then her dad dies because of her shitty boyfriend!!! I just hate romance novels that include infidelity in the story, I will never love a romance that has to “overcome” that - everyone deserves loyalty and accountability. Justice for her dad man - he suffered and paid for his daughters crappy choice in men The reveal here was just not enough for me. I mean, terrible scenario, but I definitely thought "that was it?" I could have brushed past that but there was sooooo muuuuch seeeex and I'm soooo not into it. Listened on audiobook at 1.6x speed and yet at one point they were kissing when I started to cross the Brooklyn Bridge, so I turned it down for a bit, but they were STILL makin' out when I got to the other side. Too much erotica here and not enough regaining of the emotion--why are they still in love so many years later? What shared connection is there? Give me something! HTML:After a decade apart, childhood sweethearts reconnect by chance in New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren's touching, romantic novel Love and Other Words...how many words will it take for them to figure out where it all went wrong? The story of the heart can never be unwritten. Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away. But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos??the first and only love of her life??the careful bubble she's constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy's entire world??growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother...only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her. Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more??spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy's decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-con No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

I thought the relationship between the fmc and mmc was kinda weird. Like they're 15 years old but willing to ask the other about sex? Idk maybe that's just me
I felt like most of the characters were pretty flat, the only ones that really had anything were the main main characters, and even they were kind of flat.
Overall I liked this book, but it bothered me a little bit. (
