Six foot three. Dynamic green eyes. Utterly irresistible. Ethan Everest stole my breath the first time I saw him. He romanced me with skill, dazzled me with his charisma, and proceeded to steal my heart right after. I might have fallen for his easy-going smile the first time we met, but I fell for him the second time. Honey-colored hair. Cherry-kissed lips. Captivatingly gorgeous. Singer Davis was the first, and only, woman to ever intimidate me. She spoke to my heart with her wit, seduced me with her eyes, and became the only thing that made sense in a world that made none. I let her slip through my fingers once. I won't make that mistake twice. Secrets broke us apart. Can a second chance bring us back together? From New York Times Bestselling Author, S.L. Scott, comes a ROMANTIC SUSPENSE STANDALONE that will have you on the edge of your seat and swooning over this new ALPHA BILLIONAIRE.… (més)

I am not sure that there is anything that this author cannot write. She manages to draw via words an entire character(s) or scene to a degree that if you close your eyes you could picture them/it right before you. They seem tangible and real. They come with flaws. They have their insecurities. Yet, because of how they are portrayed you can feel what they feel. You get a birds-eye view of how their mind works. This is not something that is easy to do and yet this author does it flawlessly.

This is especially true of Everest and Singer. How often have we felt insecure around someone else, especially if in our mind they are a God or Goddess and we are just mere mortals? This book started out a bit slower than her other works but I knew that this author would not disappoint and she didn't. Everest became like the mountain and I wanted to climb him. Literally and figuratively. He was deliciousness in a God-like body. While he seemed immovable and unreachable it became apparent as the story progressed that there was more to his demeanor than what showed on the surface. Singer, how I adored her, I loved that she was such a free spirit. She loved wholly and unconditionally.

I cannot recommend this author enough. Every character she writes leaves its mark on your soul. Just when you think one character has one the top spot as book boyfriend then along comes another flawed hero and he takes the throne until the cycle repeats. ( )

Gah! The feels!!! Second change romance is angsty but you add in the billionaire drama, jealousy fueled rage, and more and you have a book with all the feels. I’m not crying. There is a branch in my eye. ( )

Singer Davis and her friend Melanie Lazarus have moved from Boulder, Colorado to New York City to make their careers. Instead, they're working in jobs they hate, and still barely able to pay for a decent apartment in a less than ideal neighborhood. And since Singer's goal is a career in publishing, she knows she wouldn't be able to afford even this if she succeeds in getting an entry level job at a publisher.

Despite this, they are enjoying their lives, and Singer's life starts to be enlivened by periodic sightings of a stunningly handsome man who seems to be looking at her with interest, too.

Months pass before they really meet, but when they do, he's as charming, and interesting, as his looks.

But he's very clear that while he wants to spend time with her, he doesn't want to date, and at first it's not at all clear why.

His name is Ethan Everest, and he's a Texas boy who got rich with an online social network he originally created in high school. Now he's had a falling out with his friend and partner, and he's involved in multiple lawsuits as he gets forced out of his company and fights the contrived charges against him.

It's the start of an exciting, confusing, and even dangerous romance.

Singer and Everest are both likable, interesting people, and choose to surround themselves with other likable people. Obviously, Ethan has not always succeeded in that. The character development, though, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on, is merely good, not excellent.

Still, they are good characters, good people, and this is about good people winning out in the end.

Content note: explicit sex, more than I personally care for, but really, not excessive, and I expect this is not a note that will put many people off.

Overall, recommended.

I received a free electronic galley from the author, and am reviewing it voluntarily. ( )

Such a fantastic book. It was my first by this author, and I loved every second of it. This was such a book filled with suspense, romance, love, angst, and sexy times. The setting, and the dialogue were on point. I can't wait to read more from this author. Told in dual pov. ( )
