This story is sweet at it tells about this little girls name and why her father chose the names for her because it is so long. As he describes the reasoning for the names, she begins to understand and grow into them but realizes the name Alama is picked just for her to make her own story. I would use this in the classroom to represent self identity and coming to know who you are and being confident in that. ( )

I love how alma wanted to explore her roots. It reminds me of myself when I was younger always asking my Tata for answers. And always asking my mom about my name too.

This book carries a strong message of family heritage and also self-esteem. The main character is a little girl named Alma, who at first does not like her name because it is too long. She tells her Dad this, so he sits her down and tells her where each part of her name came from. After learning all of this, she loves her name! I think this book would be great for kids! ( )

I found it cool how when she asks her father about her name he explains to her all the family members and their names plus all the great stuff they did. She then begins to appreciate her name and wants to live up to it. I really like it when names having meaning behind them but also if they don't you can make your name memorable by making a difference.

This was a great read. This is a great book to help children realize that where they come from is special. It is important for children to realize that their family history and culture is important and helps make them who they are. ( )
