This is so sweet! There's a new girl in school, but she gets bullied by a mean little brat in her class. Very hurt, she runs home in tears. One girl sees this exchange and gets upset herself. All day, she ponders on the situation until she comes up with a wonderful idea: she tells her friends about it and decides to walk to school with the girl the next day. On the way, they are joined by many, many more students, who all work together to make Vanessa feel welcome. This book could be a very useful tool in teaching young children about bullying and how one simple act of kindness can multiply into a much bigger thing. I wouldn't even draw the line at reading this to younger children. I think it could be read to elementary students and even potentially older kids who would be receptive to the story. As an adult, I felt touched by it, and I'm sure others would be, as well, regardless of their age. We can always be reminded that we should act with kindess instead hate, especially toward someone who already feels like an outsider. It's messages like this that kids need to learn early on because we can see how the lack of such messages can lead to serious hate and discrimination later on in life.

There is also a helpful resource page in the back that teaches kids about bullying and how to act against it, as well as tips for adults to use when talking to kids about it. ( )

A powerful wordless picture book about how a simple action can make big changes. ( )

When Vanessa was bullied on her first day at school, several children saw what happened. But one little girl worried about it all that night and decided to take action by herself. This is a wordless book, and that makes it powerful. The teacher and the children supply words and feelings as the illustrations are "read". The authors provide some advices on the last page for teachers and parents about how to wonder and go deeper into this book with children.

I really like this book. While it has no words, it can certainly speak volumes. This picture book shares a story of an girl named Vanessa who is bullied. Another little girl witness what happened and wonders all night what she could have done or can do to help her. The next day she walks with the girl while inviting others to walk with them. This book is full of great themes the kids may discuss, such as, bullying, empathy, integrity, sticking together, and friendship, just to name a few. With all that is going on all across the nation, they would all be great and value lesson about life. I give this book 5 stars. ( )
