Cette description de la vie d'une famille de juifs viennois avant et après la 2e guerre mondiale, est parfois pleine d'humour, parfois très touchante, parfois passionnante : le chapitre qui raconte l'enfance du père et de l'oncle en Angleterre pour échapper aux dangers du nazisme, ou celui qui raconte les débuts de la vie professionnelle du père dans sa boutique ouverte spécialement aux sportifs des pays de l'est ou encore à la fin du livre, le chapitre où la narratrice accompagne son père âgé sur les lieux de son enfance en Angleterre, ou ensuite la description de la grande dispute familiale où son frère Robert quitte définitivement le cercle familiale... à chaque fois, lisant ces chapitres, je me disais "quel bon bouquin !" Et puis certains passages ou chapitres m'ont totalement barbés comme l'ultime chapitre décrivant l'enterrement du grand-père que j'ai trouvé beaucoup trop long. Je dois aussi avouer que la lecture ne m'a pas été toujours facile d'une part à cause des phrases retranscrites avec une prononciation ou un vocabulaire typiquement juifs mais aussi à cause de l'ordre non chronologique des épisodes familiaux racontés. Plot: Vienna tells the story of a Viennese (half-) Jewish family from the beginning of the 20th century to today. It does so through various anecdotes. The book focusses mostly on the father and the grandfather of the family, chronicling their way through the second world war and how they build their life up again afterwards.
I liked Vienna. It’s well written, with a great sense of humour and it’s so perfectly Viennese, it was a joy to read.

Et puis certains passages ou chapitres m'ont totalement barbés comme l'ultime chapitre décrivant l'enterrement du grand-père que j'ai trouvé beaucoup trop long.
Je dois aussi avouer que la lecture ne m'a pas été toujours facile d'une part à cause des phrases retranscrites avec une prononciation ou un vocabulaire typiquement juifs mais aussi à cause de l'ordre non chronologique des épisodes familiaux racontés. (
