Tau Zero (1970)

Premetto che ero prevenuto sullo svolgimento e sulla parte finale perché l'inizio l'ho trovano molto noioso, sarò sincero. È un hard scifi, spaziale, molto tecnico e scientifico ma accostato ad una parallela narrazione degli eventi che farebbe invidia a un romance dei più banali. Questo accostare alle avventure della astronave più improbabile del mondo (prima di Adams) i fatti e le sottotrame romantiche che coinvolgono tutti i passeggeri, all'inizio fa supporre che il libro non tratti di altro che di una sorta di un fantascientifico Beautiful. in realtà procedendo con la lettura si capisce che un osservazione molto attenta dei rapporti interpersonali tra gli individui non è altro che una specie di analisi sociologica che l'autore approfondisce. la trama a volte ha del surreale e a volte sembra talmente plausibile da tanto che viene scientificamente spiegata da sembrare roba di tutti i giorni, In che porta ad una conclusione letteralmente col botto... è sicuramente un classico della fantascienza straconsigliato anche se di buona parte del romanzo forse, a mio modesto parere, si poteva fare davvero a meno. What starts as a fairly common tale of Interplanetary colonization, turns into something much more, Poul Anderson is one of my favorite authors and he really comes through here with a strong story.

reread 3.5 stars It's the most unusual of space flight stories, a way to survive the death of the universe and the next big bang. I'm pretty sure in 1969 it was unclear if after expansion the universe would contract back in for another cycle. But now we know that the universe is expanding and will never contract, that the death of the universe is the final heat death. ( )

Holycowbatman! Relearning physics and astronomy to read and understand this book took some time and thought. Author received a degree in physics from the University of Minnesota so the science is accurate. Story line strong enough to pull ready through. Interesting premise based on the expansion of the universe. ( )

I read this years ago and really enjoyed it. I liked the concept of travelling so far beyond the speed of light that you are basically time travelling and able to choose the type of universe you wish to live in. One in which the universal constants may be set just a little different such that life is just a little bit different. Good concept for intellectual exploration.

This book was one of the first Sc-Fi books I ever read. Had a lasting effect! A classic of the "hard-science" theme. ( )
