This book brings the reader into the lives of a torn down family. It’s vivid language haunts the words of the podcast that is trying to find the true story of Sadie and her sister. This thriller pulls the heartstrings in a must read for someone looking for a realistic portrayal of the horrors of a young survivor of rape struggling to find vengeance. In short, it is really good and no amount of words can give it justice. ( )

Wow, this book is amazing and gut-wrenching. I found myself sobbing through at least the last hour of the book. Listen to the audio version, it is brilliant. ( )

Now I see what all the hype was about. I usually don't like to read books that are extremely hyped - they scare me for some reason. What if I end up building it up in my mind too much, have hopes that are too high and end up severely disappointed? I mean, some of my favorite books as a child were books that I just happened across at Walden Books (when that store was still around) or browsing the isles of Borders (which also is unhappily not around anymore). So I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed listening to this book and could see myself possibly reading it again to pick up on certain details that I feel like I missed while listening to it.

Sadie is a great book (and audiobook) to read. The audiobook came with a full cast of characters and other pieces of soundtrack (music, birds tweeting, and babies crying kind of soundtrack) to make you feel like the interviews, phone calls, and files were on a tv show. The cast members were very talented and I love the main narrator who played Sadie.

The plot was full of twists and turns and while I was initially mad about the ending, I think I actually enjoy all that it could mean. There were so many strong, flawed characters that loved hearing the backstories on and this book's pacing worked just wonderfully. I strongly recommend this book to read - and if you can get your hands on an audiobook, I would highly suggest listening to it. ( )

Popular radio personality West McCray receives a desperate phone call from a stranger imploring him to find nineteen-year-old runaway Sadie Hunter, he's not convinced there's a story there; girls go missing all the time.

But when it's revealed that Sadie fled home after the brutal murder of her little sister, Mattie, West travels to the small town of Cold Creek, Colorado, to uncover what happened. As he traces her path a deeply unsettling mystery begins to unfold. Can he find Sadie before it's too late?

When I picked this book as part of the group read, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. But now, after having finished reading it, I can say with full conviction, that this is definitely one of the best books I have read.

This is such an amazing story. It is narrated in alternating chapters between a podcast and Sadie’s journey. The story was so gripping right from the first page. “The Girls” podcast, was an excellent addition to this rather powerful story.

But as you read this book, you get lost in Sadie’s journey as she goes on a mission, determined to hunt for the man, she feels is responsible for her younger sister, Mattie’s murder. You fall in love with her and you want to get inside the book to protect her and comfort her no matter how strong she is.

And the ending was definitely gut punching!
