Short chapters, heavily illustrated, chronicle the everyday adventures of a funny and spirited Pakistani American girl. Mistakes are made, frustrations happen, but thoughtfulness leads to success. It's just a bright, lovely book. ( )

The illustrations are cute and appealing and we definitely need more diverse characters like Yasmin, but the story was not as funny or entertaining as other beginning chapter books and I'm afraid a lot of younger readers (especially the struggling ones) will lose interest and stop reading--the copy I borrowed from the library had pencil markings along the words for the first couple episodes, but none after.
Nice glossary and backmatter at the end of the book, especially for those kids who are less familiar with Pakistani/Muslim culture. I am looking forward to seeing more from Yasmin. ( )
