Usually I don’t read more recent historical fiction but there was something about this book that drew me to it. From the first page, the author has a way of drawing you in and wanting to know more about Beatriz. Chanel Cleeton has a way of telling Beatriz’s story all while keeping you on the edge of your seat and gripping the pages while trying to figure out what will happen next. Brilliant book and one that I will probably keep re-reading for many years to come! ( ![]() “If I’m going to have regrets in this life, I’d rather them be for the chances I took and not the opportunities I let slip away.” ― Chanel Cleeton, When We Left Cuba I am in love with this book and with the gorgeous atmosphere it creates. This book combines many things I love..Historical Fiction, with a lush, opulent stunning riveting atmosphere. It's got romance, spies and unforgettable characters not to mention being very easy to read and a whole lot of intrigue and fun. I think Beatriz is a great lead character and I could not put the book down wondering where it was going to take me next. I also love books that take place in Florida and I have an interest in Cuban History. Put it all together and you get one fine book. Historical Fiction lovers will want to read this one. WHEN WE LEFT CUBA is the fabulous sequel to NEXT YEAR IN HAVANA. The first book told the tale of Elisa Perez and her granddaughter Marisol. In this book, we follow Beatriz Perez as she dreams about going back to Cuba to kill Fidel Castro. Beatriz even gets recruited by the CIA to infiltrate Castro's inner circle. Her thirst for revenge is all she can think of, until one fateful evening when she meets a US senator that will steal her heart. This is a forbidden romance, and Beatriz is torn between her love for her home country and the love for a man who can never be hers. READ THE REST OF THE REVIEW OVER AT FRESH FICTION! In 1960s Florida, a young Cuban exile will risk her life--and heart--to take back her country in this exhilarating historical novel from the author of Next Year in Havana, Truly a beautifully told story. I love the first book and loved this one ever more, as Beatriz is now one of my favorite book characters ever. 5 Stars. I finished When We Left Cuba in two days. The story and characters sucked me in and I enjoyed the entire trip. Chanel Cleeton writes a good story and I love her prose. I saw this book on a table in a bookstore nine months ago, and it had been on my to-read list since then. After starting two other books I couldn't get into, this was fun. I'm not usually into a book classified as Romance, nor do I care what it is classified as. It was a fun read - espionage, hidden lover, gorgeous protagonist, all set against the conflict of Cuba and the US in the early 1960s. As far as I can tell, the author got her history right, (I'm not an expert on the time period), something I take seriously in fiction or nonfiction. I didn't even know until the end that it is a sequel to an earlier book, Next Year in Havana. This book stands by itself. All in all, a quick read and fun break from more serious choices. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

HTML: In 1960's Florida, a young Cuban exile will risk her life-and heart-to take back her country in this exhilarating historical novel from the author of Next Year in Havana. Beautiful. Daring. Deadly. The Cuban Revolution took everything from sugar heiress Beatriz Perez-her family, her people, her country. Recruited by the CIA to infiltrate Fidel Castro's inner circle and pulled into the dangerous world of espionage, Beatriz is consumed by her quest for revenge and her desire to reclaim the life she lost. As the Cold War swells like a hurricane over the shores of the Florida Strait, Beatriz is caught between the clash of Cuban American politics and the perils of a forbidden affair with a powerful man driven by ambitions of his own. When the ever-changing tides of history threaten everything she has fought for, she must make a choice between her past and future-but the wrong move could cost Beatriz everything-not just the island she loves, but also the man who has stolen her heart. .No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
