[Introduction] I am surprised and delighted at the varied and continued results and discoveries that have come from the friendship quilts and their stories in this book.

Bent over the family quilting frame, her left hand hidden underneath, the right one pushing her needle through flowered calico, Leonora Bagley ("A Piece of Ellen's Dress") found it hard to believe she was making this quilt for her little sister's wedding and going-away present.
