Una serie de brutales crímenes está sacudiendo la ciudad de Filadelfia. Varias jóvenes católicas han aparecido torturadas con las manos en cruz asidas a un rosario. Philadelphia wordt opgeschrikt door de brute moord op een scholiere. Het meisje dat naar een katholieke school ging, wordt gevonden met in haar handen een rozenkans waarvan een deel van de kralen mist. Haar handen zijn aan elkaar vastgeklonken met een stalen bout.
Als korte tijd later weer een katholiek meisje wordt gevonden met een rozenkrans waar een nog groter aantal kralen aan ontbreekt, weten rechercheur Kevin Byrne en zijn nieuwe partner Jessica Balzano dat ze voor een helse taak staan.
Steeds dieper moet het duo doordringen in de geest van een zieke moordenaar waarbij hun eigen geloof op de proef wordt gesteld. Over enkele dagen is het Pasen, de dag van de wederopstanding. Terwijl het aantal kralen aan de rozenkransen afneemt, neemt het aantal slachtoffers toe.
