The 2019 Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award Winner In an astonishing unfurling of our universe, Newbery Honor winner Marion Dane Bauer and Caldecott Honor winner Ekua Holmes celebrate the birth of every child. Before the universe was formed, before time and space existed, there was . . . nothing. But then . . . BANG! Stars caught fire and burned so long that they exploded, flinging stardust everywhere. And the ash of those stars turned into planets. Into our Earth. And into us. In a poetic text, Marion Dane Bauer takes readers from the trillionth of a second when our universe was born to the singularities that became each one of us, while vivid illustrations by Ekua Holmes capture the void before the Big Bang and the ensuing life that burst across galaxies. A seamless blend of science and art, this picture book reveals the composition of our world and beyond -- and how we are all the stuff of stars.… (més)

I really enjoyed this book. I definitely recommend this book to any educator in science or math for middle grades. It’s an amazing picture book that will keep anyone’s attention. This book talks about the existence before the whole universe was put in place. Have you ever thought what the universe was like before it was all formed? Look no further. This is a great book for anyone! ( )

In the award winning picture book, "The Stuff of Stars" takes you on an astonishing journey. Before the universe was even formed, before time and space existed there was nothing. Stars soon caught on fire and began to exploded, which resulted into flinging stardust everywhere. The ash from all of those stars soon formed into planets. Into our earth and into us. Introducing this book to the class shows a seamless blend of both art and science, this books also reveals the composition of our world and beyond. ( )

This book describes the creation of the universe through illustration. This would be good for primary students and for discussion.

I liked this book for the illustrations and the message that came across. I could see this book be visually stipulating to a primary student. I enjoyed the many colors and the progression of earth it described. Very creative with Stardust and I think it is something I might use in a classroom ( )

This book was about how the universe was created with a big bang. It talks about the planets being formed and how the earth was perfect distance away from the sun. The art in this book was very cool. It was splatter paint and very vibrant colors. This would be a great book to read during a science lesson about the planets. ( )
