The Jerusalem Bible is a re-translation of all of the original texts of the Bible from Hebrew into modern English. Using definitive original language texts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, biblical scholars of L' cole Biblique in Jerusalem produced a meticulously accurate, wonderfully readable French translation of the complete canon of Scripture (La Bible de J rusalem). From this French original came the English edition, edited by renowned Bible scholar Alexander Jones." This book was originally published as a one-volume work. In order to reprint it in soft cover, it has been necessary to divide it into three volumes. This is the first volume, which covers The Pentateuch, the five books attributed to Moses, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, and the Historical Books, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, Samuel I, Samuel II, Kings I, Kings II, Chronicles I, Chronicles II, Ezra, Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, and 1 and 2 Maccabees.
