This is part story part manual. It is the story of James Baker as he realizes he has the ability to summon which is the journal that inspired the Summoner series. It is written in the style of a journal, followed by a manual on demons and then a spell list. For fans of the summoner series, this is a great book to bring things together. It helps give a better understanding to the demons and spells referenced, along with a better understanding of the beginning of the series itself.
Though I have never read the summoner series, I enjoyed the book. It makes me want to read the series and I believe I will go in with a better understanding of what is happening in the story. I also just enjoy reading the information about the demons and seeing the associated picture. (
