But the tension builds nicely and a few unexpected twists at the end makes this an easy read. ( ![]() Dumb, dumb, dumb. I wouldn't hire her. I think I may have to stop reading Ruth Ware's book; her protagonists are infuriating. This book is why Ware has become one of my favorites. This is the ultimate spooky mystery thriller novel. Rarely do I get up at 4 am just to finish a book because I can't stand not knowing the ending for another second! The reason I didn't give it five stars was the way it ended. It was just a tad unsatisfying. I wanted to know more! None of her books, as far as I know, have become films, but I would really love to see this one come alive on the big screen! I really enjoyed this read. It was the perfect amount of creepy for my tastes. The main character may not have been all that likeable herself, but I found her story interesting and suspenseful. I found myself wondering at what I could believe from this unreliable narrator. I was a bit worried that the ending would not be satisfying (given it was based on Turn of the Screw and I found that ambiguous ending unsatisfying), but I actually liked the ending and found that it left me feeling content with the story. I will definitely consider reading more by Ware in the future. So you want a new job? Well, you really don’t want a new job and you don’t really need a new job but let’s take a new one anyway. And because life is not stressful enough, let’s take a job as a nanny with a family with young children knowing that they’ve gone through at least 3 previous nanny’s recently for reasons unknown. And so it begins...the pay and the shower is amazing, so what could the issue be? What began as a dream job quickly turns into a nightmare as another great story from Ruth Ware unfolds. There are enough questions to keep you guessing and enough surprises to keep you on your toes. It’s hard to review this book without giving too much away because so many little things seem unimportant when they occur but ultimately become very relevant to the story. I will say Ms Ware is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

"From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, The Lying Game, and The Death of Mrs. Westaway comes Ruth Ware's highly anticipated fifth novel. When she stumbles across the ad, she's looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss--a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten--by the luxurious "smart" home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family. What she doesn't know is that she's stepping into a nightmare--one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder. Writing to her lawyer from prison, she struggles to explain the unravelling events that led to her incarceration. It wasn't just the constant surveillance from the cameras installed around the house, or the malfunctioning technology that woke the household with booming music, or turned the lights off at the worst possible time. It wasn't just the girls, who turned out to be a far cry from the immaculately behaved model children she met at her interview. It wasn't even the way she was left alone for weeks at a time, with no adults around apart from the enigmatic handyman, Jack Grant. It was everything. She knows she's made mistakes. She admits that she lied to obtain the post, and that her behavior toward the children wasn't always ideal. She's not innocent, by any means. But, she maintains, she's not guilty--at least not of murder. Which means someone else is. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, The Turn of the Key is an unputdownable thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
