![]() No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. Put frankly, this is a muddled attempt at storytelling from start to finish. Introducing the main character using a letter from an inmate to an attorney is one thing. But expanding it to a 300 page narrative causes the reader to wonder what sort of attorney would bother. Add to that a barrage of unfulfilled plot elements using romance, paranormal, identities, poison, ghosts, etc. while failing to create a meaningful ending, it's amateur at best. Art appeals to individual tastes and this one was anything but appealing for mine. If mystery is your genre of choice, pass on this one. ( ![]() 1.5 rounded up to 2 for the good suspense writing in parts. Well the start was so promising and then nothing much happened. I didn't enjoy the format which was literally a novel length letter to a lawyer telling them about everything that had transpired up until the death of a girl under her care. There was a good sense of menace that was built up but I grew tired and a bit bored as the 'what is that noise?', "but I closed that door and now it's open, "I hear mysterious footsteps" stuff went on and on and on. I didn't enjoy the ending which I think was meant to be a series of shocking reveals but they felt a bit ho-hum and fell really flat for me. I see some very positive reviews so I guess it was a case of not for me. This has to be my favorite Ruth Ware book so far. :-) Good story. I listened to the book and did not especially like the reader. Overly dramatic and drawn out. Might have given it 4 stars if I had read it. "From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, The Lying Game, and The Death of Mrs. Westaway comes Ruth Ware's highly anticipated fifth novel. When she stumbles across the ad, she's looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss--a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten--by the luxurious "smart" home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family. What she doesn't know is that she's stepping into a nightmare--one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder. Writing to her lawyer from prison, she struggles to explain the unravelling events that led to her incarceration. It wasn't just the constant surveillance from the cameras installed around the house, or the malfunctioning technology that woke the household with booming music, or turned the lights off at the worst possible time. It wasn't just the girls, who turned out to be a far cry from the immaculately behaved model children she met at her interview. It wasn't even the way she was left alone for weeks at a time, with no adults around apart from the enigmatic handyman, Jack Grant. It was everything. She knows she's made mistakes. She admits that she lied to obtain the post, and that her behavior toward the children wasn't always ideal. She's not innocent, by any means. But, she maintains, she's not guilty--at least not of murder. Which means someone else is. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, The Turn of the Key is an unputdownable thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
