I have only read two other books by JT Ellison and when reading through those reviews it seems like I was sort of stuck in the middle with both of them. I must say the third read definitely pulled me in and made me a fan. Unlike what I read previously, this book makes me want to go read her other works (and there are many to choose from!). Since the story revolves around teenage girls who are sent to a special private school it’s hard to believe there’s more than your typical rich girl catfight happening here. But there is so so much more going on with then students and the staff. I found it refreshing that the characters are not written in a stereotypical manner, including the dean. I think that made a big difference on how this book came across to me. My only complaint would be that I felt the ending was a bit rushed. Things were quickly explained, but I felt a bit cheated out of the full impact of the events. I really enjoyed this one, despite being a bit disappointed by the direction it went. It was quick paced, tensely plotted, and kept my mind racing with thoughts about what must really be going on. Recommended for readers looking for a twisty thriller. Not recommended for readers who want a completely believable tale. My first DNF for 2020! Listened to almost 4 hours and just could not get into this story. I only found the first chapter interesting. I might not be in the mood for this type of thriller at this time. Rating: 3 stars What I loved: The sass in this one is REAL. I loved how gossipy and just plain awful these girls were. It was like Gossip Girl level sass but amplified by 10. These are the kinds of girls I love to hate. Nothing beats a good villain, or in this case, a whole book of villains. There were also a few good twists, which is obviously a must in a mystery/thriller. I really enjoyed the narrators and learning more about what made each one tick. What didn't work for me: This one was just a little too long, I think. The first 60% of the book dragged a lot and although I was enjoying the read, it took me 4 days to get through. I almost DNF'd it a few times. Reccomend: If you loved Gossip Girl as much as I did, pick this one up. It starts out slow, but I promise the last 25% of the ride is worth it. * Disclaimer: I recieved this arc from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
Goode girls don't lie... Perched atop a hill in the tiny town of Marchburg, Virginia, The Goode School is a prestigious prep school known as a Silent Ivy. The boarding school of choice for daughters of the rich and influential, it accepts only the best and the brightest. Its elite status, long-held traditions and honor code are ideal for preparing exceptional young women for brilliant futures at Ivy League universities and beyond. But a stranger has come to Goode, and this ivy has turned poisonous. In a world where appearances are everything, as long as students pretend to follow the rules, no one questions the cruelties of the secret societies or the dubious behavior of the privileged young women who expect to get away with murder. But when a popular student is found dead, the truth cannot be ignored. Rumors suggest she was struggling with a secret that drove her to suicide. But look closely...because there are truths and there are lies, and then there is everything that really happened. J.T. Ellison's pulse-pounding new novel examines the tenuous bonds of friendship, the power of lies and the desperate lengths people will go to to protect their secrets.
