Again, this is another book I will use when teaching ECRTR and using it under the "write" skill. What could be better than teaching about writing (and frankly, how books are made) than this book? It's a bit long so I will do my paper clip hack ;) ( )

"First you need a Good Idea."

"Here's what you have to know:
-what you're talking about
-who it's for"

Materials include crayons, paper, pencil, a table, your imagination, a plan, and a stapler ("if you are allowed")

You also need a title, and a story. The story needs a hero, something she wants, something stopping her, something happening, what goes wrong, and how she gets what she wants in the end. You need a beginning, middle, and end. You make the cover, show it to people, and then revise!

Really, this is all practical advice, with very funny examples. ( )

Look! I Wrote a Book! (and You Can Too!) was quite a hoot, and I found myself chuckling aloud on more than one occasion, as I read through it. The section about choosing an appropriate title, in which the girl narrator reads a book called "Monsters Will Eat You!" to a line of horrified babies, was absolutely hilarious. Then there was the fact that "Cleaning My Room" was labeled a "tragedy." Ha! I definitely would have identified with that as a girl. Both educational and entertaining, this is a book to put in the hands of would-be writers and book illustrators, to show them all of the steps that go into making a book. ( )
