Linc gave up his business to move cross country with his wife's promotion. After spending some time getting his house and his daughter settled, he finds it's not as easy to return as he thought --nor is it easy to stay at home. ( ) Ad Hudler's humorous look at what it's like to be a stay-at-home parent is a quick and easy read with unexpected depth. In the book, Linc Menner and his wife, Jo move from California to New York so that Jo can become CEO of a hospital. Linc becomes the primary caregiver for their three-year-old daughter, Violet, and the book plots Linc's first year in that role. Having been both a "working mother" and a stay-at-home mom, I very much enjoyed reading about the woman's role from a man's perspective -- particularly from the viewpoint of a man immersed in the woman's role. Ad Hudler is spot-on and as he relates the trials, rewards, insecurities, and challenges associated with the job of being a housewife/husband. It's especially nice that he includes recipes for the food mentioned throughout the book (although I wish they were all in one spot rather than attached to the chapter with which they are associated). The character of Linc is a likable guy despite being a control-freak know-it-all when it comes to running a household. Every reader may not appreciate the scorn with which Linc views certain parenting/cooking/cleaning styles; however, if you're secure in your own methods and enjoy a fun yet insightful read, be sure to pick this book up. I'll definitely be reading Hudler's other books! Ad Hudler's humorous look at what it's like to be a stay-at-home parent is a quick and easy read with unexpected depth. When his wife, Jo, is offered her dream job, Lincoln Menner leaves his thriving landscape business in Los Angeles and moves to Rochester, New York. This will be his chance to start over, spend a little time with their three-year-old daughter, and finally do things right at home. But Linc had no idea what it really meant to be a househusband: to stay home every day, folding laundry, cleaning soap scum, and teaching his little girl to use the potty. To be ignored at parties by his wife’s colleagues who see him as just a homemaker. Though he soon has the house humming, Linc misses the outside world. Most of all he misses Jo, who works too late and barely notices the fabulous dinners he slaves over. Drastic action must be taken to make his efficiently run house truly a home, sweet home. And Linc knows he is just the man for the job! From the Paperback edition. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
