What Every Girl (except me) Knows, is about a girl named Gabby whose mother died when she was little. She wishes now more than ever that she had a mother. A mom to talk to in her times of need or help. Gabby even has a journal where she writes all these different things on what a mother should be like. Her dad is also going out with someone and she doesnt know if thats who she wants to be her new mother. This book is a pretty good book. It is sad at times because you know it would be really hard if you didn't have a mother to help you out. And you know not everything you can talk to your dad about. So in this book i really start to feel bad for her. Then it really makes me think about what it would be like if i didn't have a mother. All in all its a good book to read. classroom connection: This could be used if there are students with single parents for them to see that many children feel that way despite the reason their parents are single. They can see that it's a struggle for everyone. Also students with parents who are not single can get an inside view of what their peers may be going through.
