Morgan used to be a pretty normal guy. He went to college by day and played online games by night, leading his guild into new conquests-until he got hit by a car, and a dude wearing a wetsuit appeared in front of him. The man offered him a new chance at life in a world that he had created, a world with similar rules to the games that Morgan loved to play. There is the promise of great rewards and power, he says, if Morgan manages to complete the Tower of Power. Stupid name, I know. Morgan didn't usually trust strangers who seem to have god complexes, but he was in a pinch. There's a crazy-looking dude saying that he is technically not a god on one end of the tunnel, and a blinding light on the other end-and he was really not digging the light. So he accepted the offer from the surfer god-not-god. Getting dropped into a strange new world with no idea what the rules are was not something that Morgan was a fan of; and in this strange world, it seems like everything is out to eat his face. It was a good thing, then, that he stumbled onto two half-elf twins willing to help him get the hang of this strange new world. Now, all he needs to do is survive long enough to reach this Tower.… (més)

MC dies and a god gives him the opportunity to start new on another world. That world is a big competition with a game system and there is a big tower with many levels that has to be cleared.
The MC finds other adventurers, groups with them, progresses with them and they are betrayed by a guild. In the end they form their own guild.
I liked the characters but mostly i like that the MC is developing tactics to win fights. Haven't read that often but makes sense and is a nice idea.

I'm amused. I know this is supposed to be gaming made into literature (thus LitRPG) but I did NOT expect to actually follow a character through the creation screens. The repetition of the stats screen every time it changes gets annoying the deeper into the book you go. Some may like it, I found it distracting and pulled from the story.

That's got to be an editing error. There's no such thing as a double headed sword. Double handed sword or double headed axe, even a double bladed sword, but not a double headed sword. I let it go when I heard it but it definitely jarred me enough to stumble on the story.

Some of this is feeling like the author is telegraphing the plot. First woman Morgan meets? Fall in love with her. Locked in with a creature not defeated in decades? No problem, the party defeats it. Part of the loot a Guild Hearthstone? No problem, found their own guild where there are no guilds. Really could make it less obvious...

While it ends with a more or less complete story, there's a definite cliff hanger and what feels like THREE overarching story lines for the author to finish. There's the goblin army (maybe one or two more books), the revenge on Emily Door (who knows when this will work its way in), and defeating the Tower of Power (I can see this one being long running). I'm actually going to ding it for too much left hanging for a book, though for a standard video game, this would be a normal save point. ( )

First things first, the writing is about what you'd except from a litrpg. The concept works well, I enjoyed the mechanics of the game. The characters weren't the worst, except for the female lead.
She is introduced and described as having "lips made for kissing", falls in love with our protagonist in a week, and a month later they're married.
This book really showcases why some authors should abstain from anything remotely romantic.
There was nothing exceptional, and some parts were sorta funny, the only offensively bad parts were the romance. It's a decent read if you ran out of "good" litrpgs and still want more. ( )
