Coming on the heels of his bestselling Choke, and Imperfect Strangers, Stuart Woods brings back one of his best loved characters, Stone Barrington, who most recently appears in New York Dead, in a fast paced, rollercoaster ride through the high-profile world of celebrity gossip. Feared and disliked for both her poison pen and ice queen persona, bi-coastal gossip columnist Amanda Dart finds the tables have turned. The unwitting victim of an anonymous gossipmonger who is faxing to national opinion makers an outrageous scandal sheet revealing the details of her on-going indiscretions with a nationally known takeover artist, Amanda enlists the help of New York lawyer and investigator Stone Barrington to learn the identity of the faxer. Everybody is a suspect in the world of tabloid journalism. As the faxes grow more scathing and begin to expose the peccadilloes of not only Amanda but other members of the gossip community, Barrington winds up with more leads than he can handle, and an employer who is about to take matters dangerously into her own hands. The world of gossip is turned on its head. It becomes clear to Stone that even the most respected members of the social scene will stop at nothing - even murder - to clear their names. Irresistible as only good gossip can be, Dirt is a mesmerising tale of betrayal and murder set against a backdrop of the fast-paced Manhattan tabloid business; it is filled with the twists and turns that have made Stuart Woods's nocels international hits.… (més)

A steely gossip columnist gets her comeuppance in this suspenseful novel.

I had never read anything by Stuart Woods before; I didn’t think the works of the prolific author of thrillers would be my cup of tea. I tried this one on a dare of sorts, and I must say, it was at least readable, despite its characters’ conspicuous consumption, casual misogyny, and homophobia. I don’t think I will be continuing the series, however. ( )

Feared and loathed for her poison pen and ice queen persona, Amanda Dart has made her share of enemies. Then the tables are turned. An anonymous gossipmonger is faxing Amanda's personal and private peccadilloes to anyone who can read. Desperate to save her reputation, she enlists the help of New York lawyer and private investigator Stone Barrington to learn the identity of the faxer. And everyone in the world of tabloid journalism becomes a suspect. ( )

I believe this was the only Stuart Woods book that I didn't like. ( )

Ok story about the investigation of the source of a series of embarassing leasks about a scandal journalist. Things turn nasty and involve a lot more than simple scandal. ( )

Gossip maven becomes a target of blackmail--it doesn't get better than that, does it? Stuart Woods stories along quickly and the main character has sex with most of the females in the book. This book's a light little "whodunit" story, with very little character depth or development. Woods is a great suspense author and knows how to keep his readers interested but the Stone Barrington series is trashy. ( )

Dinner had been wonderful - twelve around a gleaming oval table of burled walnut in a dinning room a dozen stories above the light-flecked carpet of Central Park, the cooking by the chef of a famous restaurant a few blocks away, the wines from the host's superb cellar, and company carefully chosen by a couple who could cast a wide net.
