Sulwe, a girl who has skin of color, has skin that is darker than everyone in her family, darker than all of her friends, and is very insecure about herself, Sulwe wants to be just like her mother and sister who have lighter skin than her. During the story Sulwe goes through trails of trying to understand herself and why she is the way that she is and when she figures out that her name means star. When she comes to this realization she changes for the better and realizes the beauty within herself. This book is a good book to use in any classroom because it addresses race and diversity and that is a very important factor that needs to be implemented into every classroom. It is very important to make every student feel comfortable within themselves and comfortable around their peers. Sulwe is a very important character and people can learn from her. ( )
