Too long ( ) Rose's dream of owning her own coffee shop is about to go down the drain - her fiance has left her, and her uncle's will states that only her husband can claim the building. When Jack pulls her aside and offers to marry her so he can acquire the building after the 2 year stipulation for the coffee shop, Rose thinks he must be joking, but she soon finds herself with Jack, standing in front of an officiant naming them husband and wife. Rose is going to do everything she can to make the marriage work with the grumpy lawyer, but little does she know that Jack has an ulterior motive. Marriage for One is an engaging slow burn romance with twists and turns throughout the story that make it hard to put down. References to the movie, Titanic, occur frequently due to the character names and You've Got Mail is also mentioned. In addition, the characters' personalities bear a striking resemblance to the protagonists in Fifty Shades of Grey, creating a bit of a distraction and making connections with them difficult. Overall, however, Marriage for One is an entertaining romance that is well worth the read. Should've concluded around 300 pages instead of 500 since the end results would've been the same. There wasn't anything in particular that stood out with this read. The typical millionaire marrying the down in the dumps girl struggling to make ends meet before they strike a deal that benefits both parties if they married which is a typical trope that has been used and recycled too many times to count. So to speak, it you read them once, you've read them all and to be completely honest I was surprised to see all the high rated reviews this has received. Don't get me wrong it wasn't completely awful and was an overall decent read but I wouldn't call this a must read, get it while you can 5 star rating. Wow this is probably the longest romance book I've read but I did really enjoy it. I think basically all romance is kinda cheesy but this is really not the type of story I usually go for with romance. I typically prefer a little bit more danger/thrill/tension in my romance and though I do like a little bit of purely fluffy romance, I haven't read much of it in a while. I liked the setup for the relationship being a marriage of convenience. I find those sort of plots very fun and I thought it was well executed here. As I mentioned, this book is long so I was a little worried that there would be pacing issues or that I would get bored in the middle but that wasn't a problem really. There was just enough mystery alongside the cute romance to keep me very engaged. The only time I really felt a bit weird about the pacing was there was a conflict revealed with like 60 pages left which I do think was resolved fine and it was set up well, it just seemed late in the book given its length. The characters in this were good. I liked the way they played off each other in a sort of opposites attract way. Any time the male love interest in a brooding unemotional man I get a little nervous because sometimes the asshole with a heart really just seems like an asshole who will do things or act in certain ways towards his love interest that makes it very hard for me to believe they could ever have a healthy relationship. Luckily, that wasn't the case with this book. Though Jack was very unemotional and serious at first, he was never just mean to Rose and I could easily see them resolving their differences naturally as they progressed in the relationship. I liked that both Rose and Jack had well fleshed out lives and that they both seemed to have passions outside of each other. Though I understand the fun of an all consuming romance, I don't think it's very realistic to lose interest in everything else in your life besides the one person. Though I do prefer maybe more dramatic and action packed romance stories, I did thoroughly enjoy this and I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a sweet romance that they can really dig into for a while that is a bit more slow burn and lighthearted while still being entertaining and fun to read.
