Feeling different, especially as a kid, can be tough. But in the same way that different types of plants and flowers make a garden more beautiful and enjoyable, different types of people make our world more vibrant and wonderful. In Just Ask, United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor celebrates the different abilities kids (and people of all ages) have. Using her own experience as a child who was diagnosed with diabetes, Justice Sotomayor writes about children with all sorts of challenges--and looks at the special powers those kids have as well. As the kids work together to build a community garden, asking questions of each other along the way, this book encourages readers to do the same- When we come across someone who is different from us but we're not sure why, all we have to do is Just Ask.… (més)

Primary-Middle. This book is a great way to bring Inclusion into the classroom. It covers and educates about disabilities, illnesses, and learning disabilities. It was written by Supreme Court justice, Sonia Sotomayer and is also available in Spanish.

This is a great book, especially for special education teachers or classrooms because it gives small informational tools about certain academic or social needs of different types of students and kids. It teachers how to be accepting of all of our differences and also how they make a growing and thriving community. Perfect for readers in the fifth-grade or middle schools. ( )

A book that reflects how unique we all are; similar to plants and flowers. Sonia Soto Mayor does a great job at explaining her own condition as a child, and how unique that makes her. There are other conditions mentioned in this book, like allergies, dyslexia, deafness, etc. I think this is a perfect book to celebrate how unique we are, and that being curious about something we are unfamiliar with it's totally fine. This story tugs on my heartstring's and is such a sweet and endearing book. The story is based off the author Sonia and what makes her different. The story follows Sonia and her friends in a garden planting seeds and doing hard work. Along the way, they begin to ask each other questions about one and other to get to know each other and they find out that every kid has some type of challenge or struggle whether it be a learning challenge, or a physical impediment. They begin to see and understand that they all have differences but that the world is a much better place because of their differences and they can all come together. ( )
