I have enjoyed the work of Kiernan Kelly before, and she is very strong in the novella format. She gives enough back story to form a bond with characters but doesn’t linger over details that could detract from the romance. Thus, this novella has a bit more substance than most and builds the romance beyond the love at first sight cliché. Dae has thrown Jack out - again. When he runs off his anger in wolf form, he’s hit by a truck and taken to his own vet clinic. When he learns that his assistant has feelings for him, it opens his eyes to what’s been there all the time. A chance for true love with someone who cares. Dae reveals his nature to Sean and they begin a tentative relationship. Naturally, Jack returns to try and ruin it all. I agree with Laura Baumbach that the characters are charming and the romance tender. It kept me reading to the very end and I felt good when the characters got their HEA. My one minor complaint is that the paranormal aspect was simply window dressing. Dae being a werewolf wasn’t pivotol – it was a plot device to let him hear how Sean really felt. Dae could have used ordinary means on each occasion he was a wolf and reached the same conclusion. Unfortunately, paranormal romance is big these days and many authors try to squeeze into it even when it’s not necessary. Those looking for a true paranormal romance may be disappointed, but otherwise this was a solid love story with hot sex thrown in and some very romantic moments. Recommended for the romance (and the explicit sex). I like werewolfes... and seems to me that gay werewolfes are even better! Dae is a vet and a weres. He is just out of a bad relationship with Jack, the cheating man. Apparently the only merit of Jack is his beauty face and the fact that Dae fears to remain alone. But in the end Dae has enough of the unfauthfulness of Jack and threw him out. Sean is the assistant of Dae. He loves him but he has never reveal his feelings. When Dae is wounded in his wolf form is Sean who nurses him. And when Dae must admit his true identity, Sean take it very well: he loves either the man than the wolf. But Jack wants Dae back... This is a very short story (about 90 oages) but very intensive: Kiernan Kelly succeed in creating two complete characters with personal experience. Like in Riding Heartbreak Road (her former novel) the less fisical stronger character (Sean) is the most understanding of the two, the one that hold together the couple. A very pleasant before sleeping reading. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VYX7ZK/?tag=elimyrevandra-20 Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
Veterinarian Dae Anderson has worked hard to make a good life for himself, which is why his boyfriend Jack has to go. Jack is more like a stone around his neck than a help, and while Dae had problems letting Jack go, he knows he has to do it. Still, things go from bad to worse. Dae has a secret, one that he inadvertently reveals to his vet assistant, Sean, when things go terribly awry. His dual life doesn't faze Sean as much as his vengeful ex-boyfriend. Can Dae and Sean adjust to their newfound attraction and keep Jack from ruining everything for them? No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

A Change of Heart has an interesting plot, a fair bit of mystery/suspense as well as the usual romance. It's very well written, the characters detailed and real, and their emotions ring true. I didn't think that the writer made enough use of the fact that Dae is a werewolf personally and I would have preferred if some of the scenes were more drawn out - I think a full=length novel could have been made of this. Nonetheless I count it as a rollicking good read. ( )
