Six months after vanishing into an underground silo with sixty others, Wynter and Chase emerge to find the area abandoned. There is no sign of Noah and the rest of the group that was supposed to greet them when they emerged--the same people Wynter was counting on to help her locate the IV antibiotics her gravely ill friend, Julie, needs in order to live. As the clock ticks down on Julie's life, Wynter and Chase embark on a desperate search for medicine and answers. But what they find is not a nation on the cusp of recovery thanks to the promising new vaccine Wynter herself had a hand in creating, but one decimated by disease. What happened while they were underground? With food and water in limited supply and their own survival in question, Chase and Wynter must venture further and further from the silo. Aided by an enigmatic mute named Otto, they come face-to-face with a society radically changed by global pandemic, where communities scrabble to survive under rogue leaders and cities are war zones. As hope fades by the hour and Wynter learns the terrible truth of the last six months, she is called upon once again to help save the nation she no longer recognizes--a place so dark she's no longer sure it can even survive.… (més)

It was a fun story, but in my opinion not as good as the first one, The Line Between. This book felt very one sided (all Wynter) and the characters were flat. Some of the action that drove the plot seemed contrived. ( )

On a road trip this month, I picked up The Line Between & A Single Light in audiobook from my local library. It was fortuitous because while I had read the first book in the series, I was only able to get the second in audiobook format. We had 17 hours of windshield time to fill but did not think it was fair to make everyone else in the car listen to the 2nd book in the series since they would have no idea of the backstory and why things were happening. So, my 77-year-old mother and 13-year-old daughter also listened to the audiobooks with me.
I am happy to report that all three of us were captivated by the story and it made the drivetime fly. The character development was spot on, Ms. Lee took a sheltered heroine and turned her into a true Hero, not just for women but for all the world. I loved that when listening to these books I didn't have to worry that the storyline was filled with subject matter that I was embarrassed to hear with my mother sitting next to me or that my daughter was not ready for.

Overall:
These books have everything a family could want in an audiobook series. There was snappy dialogue, fast passed action, heart breaking loss and feel-good moments.
The writing is brilliant—even after I finished the last chapter I was dying for more, I wanted to know what happened even after the happily ever after.
I don't want to go all series-fan-girl, but I really hope that Ms. Lee makes another in this series so that I can see her vision for the reboot of society.

Audio:
Perfect narration, very well 5-star performance. The narrator Cassandra Campbell exceeded expectations and was able to infuse each character's dialogue with perfect inflection.

Recommend?

I recommend to anyone who likes strong female characters as well as those who are looking for audiobooks to listen to as a family. All ages will enjoy.

Disclaimer
I received via the OverDrive/Libby app from the Harris County or Houston Public Library system. It was read as an Audiobook in the Libby App on Kindle Fire. ( )

The fast-paced, gripping and terrifying A SINGLE LIGHT has me glued to my seat, and taken me on the high-octane, action-packed adventure of Wynter Roth’s determination to find the solution to the enormous challenge the nation is facing.
Will Wynter be able to find the light in the apocalyptic darkness?
With her creative imagination, the incredible Tosca Lee has masterfully crafted this absolutely engrossing and suspenseful thriller A SINGLE LIGHT, the sequel to her “The Line Between”. I enjoyed tremendously these two thrillers, and highly recommend them to anyone who loves good reads! ( )

I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler-free way. If you feel anything in my review is a spoiler and is not already hidden in spoiler brackets please let me know. Thank you.

I decided to read this book almost as soon as I finished the first one. I had gotten the first one as a free giveaway and I really enjoyed it. This one was good but not as good as the first. I was a bit disappointed, but still, in the end, I'm glad I read it for closure in this duology.

I found certain parts a bit boring. My mind would occasionally wander and I just didn't really have any drive to continue reading and find out what happened next. I wouldn't say that I forced myself to read it, but I did have to make more of an effort than I normally do.

My favorite character in this book, unfortunately, didn't last long. That's one of the biggest disappointments. I still can't believe that they were killed off and that makes me super upset. The romance was lacking a bit too, it felt forced and unnaturally fast at times.

Now for some good things book. I don't want you going away thinking only bad. There is a lot of action in this book, some of it made little sense or felt unnecessary, but still a lot of it. There was some edge of your seat nail-biting at times too, and at one point I had even shed a tear. If you have read the first book than I would say its worth the read, if for nothing else other than to have closure.

How I choose my rating:
1* Hated it. I had to force myself to finish it.
2** Didn't like it. I didn't hate it but not sure why I finished it other than for some closure.
3*** I liked it. I had some issues with it, but as a whole it was good. I probably won't reread ever, but there is a chance I might finish the series. (If part of one) But if not it's not a huge loss.
4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this, and I will finish the series. (If part of one) I would recommend to those I know hold interest in this book's content.
5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will be rereading this and probably more than once. I will finish the series and reread it multiple times. (If part of one) I will recommend this book to EVERYONE!!!!

These two as well as 61 others are locked in an underground bunker to keep them safe from a deadly virus. The rigors over so many people in a tight place brings out the ugly side, especially when their contact from above's transmission gets suddenly cut off and not restarted.

This story takes us through their time in the bunker and what happens after they emerge, trying to figure out what happened and why the vaccine Wynter and Chase acquired and delivered hasn't been widely distributed.

As I said in the first book, I'm not a huge fan of Apocalypse type stories but if Tosca Lee is writing it, I'm reading it. While this story didn't go in the direction I thought it would, and included a lot of cliché type characters it was also rich in feeling. Wynter is a compelling character that cares deeply and is at times at crossroads with herself. As Wynter and Chase race to find medicine to save Julie, they meet characters that make you see the beauty in the world as well as the darkness and those doing the best they can with an ugly situation. My heart rose and fell during this story but I'm glad I took the journey.

I voluntarily received this book for an honest review, #NetGalley. More of my reviews can be found at https://wyldheartreads.wordpress.com/ ( )
